The focus of the program is to prepare the Fellow to become a faculty member in an Emergency Medicine residency or medical school with an active Emergency Medicine program. The Fellow will become an integral part of the steering committee. The fellow attends faculty functions of the emergency department including faculty meeting and faculty development sessions. Fellows are expected to select an area of focus for the one-year period. This will encompass teaching, research, program administration and faculty education. The fellow must have completed an ACGME or AOA accredited emergency medicine residency program and be board-eligible or certified.
Goals:
- Discuss and apply basic educational principles, tools and resources for clinical teaching in the classroom and at the bedside
- Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of residency program administration
- Participate in the development of faculty educational opportunities
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of basic of research principles
- Evaluate the importance of advocacy in professional medical organizations and the political arena for academic medicine
Activities:
- Designing conference curriculum
- Participating in faculty development conferences
- Participating in faculty meetings
- Facilitating resident scholarly projects and writing activities
- Participate in the core curriculum lecture series and lab sessions
- Minimum of bi-weekly meeting with program or other educational & administrative faculty
