What's New at CMU Healthcare?

Partnership Announced between CMU Healthcare, Covenant HealthCare, St. Mary’s of Michigan, and the Central Michigan University College of Medicine

The announcement of a partnership between CMU Healthcare, Covenant HealthCare, St. Mary’s of Michigan, and Central Michigan University was a landmark moment for medical education, here in Saginaw, in the Great Lakes Bay Region, and in the State of Michigan.  The partnership will take medical education to higher levels of efficiency and excellence throughout the region.

The launch of the CMU College of Medicine and our partnership with it will transcend CMU Healthcare from a community-based to a university-based medical education program, an important and valuable distinction.  The partnership will allow expanded programming, offering the full continuum of medical education from medical school, residency training, and on into continuing medical education.

The CMU College of Medicine and CMU Healthcare’s mission and vision for the future of medical education are clearly aligned and the integration of this partnership will have far-reaching benefits for all involved. This partnership has been evolving for the past few years and each member plays a vital role in its success.

Covenant and St. Mary’s will relinquish majority interest in CMU Healthcare to CMU.  In exchange, CMU will designate Saginaw as the East Campus of the College of Medicine.

Furthermore, CMU has committed the resources to build a state-of-the-art facility in the City of Saginaw to house all clinical and academic programs.
